Joseph Kaczmarek, of White Lake, died at home in the loving care of his family on
Wednesday evening, March 18, 2015. He was 77 years old.

Born on March 15, 1938, in Detroit, he was the son of Leopold and Helen (Bem) Kaczmarek.
He graduated from Holy Redeemer High School in 1956 and took a BS in Mechanical
Engineering at General Motors Institute.  Because of his love for literature, he also achieved
a Bachelor of Arts from Wayne St. University and later used this degree to teach Epic Poetry
to engineering students at Lawrence Tech in the evening while also working at General
Motors.

On March 26, 1966 he married Almerinda (Merinda) Ausilio, the love of his life.  They settled
in Lathrup Village and had their son and daughter. He worked as a mechanical engineer all of
his professional life and he had a great aptitude for the workings of things. Known as “Tool
belt Joe” to many of his friends, he could fix, improve, restore and repurpose things, with real
pleasure.

In 1977 the family moved from Lathrup Village to a home on the lake in White Lake
Township. For many years the Kaczmarek’s traveled to warm places in March – Hawaii, St.
Croix, Cancun and Aruba  – to shorten the winter. In their retirement years they wintered in
Naples, Florida where Joe was the only man in the book discussion group. He was especially
interested in history. He was an avid reader, a lover of language, a good listener and a good
example – a Renaissance Man – creative, hardworking, curious and discerning, patient,
detailed, consistent and loyal.

Summers were spent at Torch Lake where he refurbished four properties and where family
gathered as he watched the generations rise up around him. In addition to Almerinda, his
beloved wife, Joseph is survived by his children Theodore Joseph Kaczmarek and Emily
Anne (Mark) Berberich; granddaughter, Lily Claire; siblings, Cas (Arlene) Kaczmarek,
Bernadette (Steve) Lovett, Mary Anne Williams, and Paul (Cindy) Kaczmarek; aunt Rose
Brent; as well as many nephews, nieces, cousins and dear friends.

Funeral Service from Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 404 E. Liberty St., Milford on Monday,
March 23, 2015 at 11 AM. Friends may visit on Sunday from 3 - 8 PM. Memorial
contributions encouraged to Hospice Compassus, with checks made payable to, CHA
